Fees are worked out from: Up-front processing fee at application: 30 per cent of the estimated permit fees, subject to a minimum; not refundable, but credited toward the final building permit fee; Minimum building permit fee applied to estimated job value up to 1,000; Residential building permit: 2.75 per cent of job value over 1,000 up to 50,000; 2.50 per cent over 50,000 up to 100,000; 2.00 per cent over 100,000; Commercial and all others: 2.75 per cent over 1,000 up to 100,000; 2.50 per cent over 100,000 up to 1,000,000; 2.00 per cent over 1,000,000 up to 100,000,000; 0.50 per cent above that; Plumbing and gas, electrical and mechanical each carry their own minimum on job value up to 1,000, then their own tiers.

Minimums: A minimum building permit fee and a minimum up-front processing fee, both recorded as amounts below; plumbing/gas, electrical and mechanical each carry the same minimum.

Charged on top: Double fees for starting work before the permit issues — 100 per cent of the usual fee on top of it, escalating on a second and third occasion, and the City notes code enforcement fines may also apply; One initial inspection per mandatory inspection is included; every additional inspection is charged, payable IN PERSON at the Building Department before the re-inspection or the final can take place; Lost, revised and reworked plan fees, including a revised-plans processing fee charged per half hour above a minimum; An additional charge per 1,000 of work valuation, and minimum hour blocks for some inspection types.
